HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Joseph Cirincione, senior vice president for national security and international policy at the Center for American Progress, will give a lecture at Juniata College on \"Bomb Scare: The History of Nuclear Weapons Policy from Hiroshima to Tehran\" at 7 p.m., Monday, April 16 in Alumni Hall in the Brumbaugh Academic Center on the Juniata campus. The talk is free and open to the public. The lecture is sponsored by the Baker Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies. Cirincione is basing his lecture on his latest book, \"Bomb Scare: The History and Future of Nuclear Weapons,\" which was recently released into bookstores. The lecture will open with a 15-minute film, \"A Brief History of the Atomic Age,\" followed by Cirincione\'s talk. Cirincione has a long and varied career in international issues and nuclear policy. Before coming to the Center for American Progress, in 2006, he worked at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace as director for nonproliferation. He also teaches at the graduate School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. In addition to \"Bomb Scare.\" he has written \"Deadly Arsenals: Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Threats (2005),\" and co-wrote \"Universal Compliance: A Strategy for Nuclear Security (2005).\" He earned a bachelor\'s degree at Boston College and went on to earn a master\'s degree at Georgetown\'s School of Foreign Service. He also worked for nine years in the U.S, House of Representatives on the staff of the Committee on Armed Services and the Committee on Government Operations. He also was staff director of the Military Reform Caucus in the House. He has written numerous articles on nuclear weapons issues and has created two DVDs on nuclear proliferation. His career also includes stints at the Henry L. Stimson Center, the U.S. Information Agency and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He was the publisher and editor of the Web site ProliferationNews.org. His expertise on nuclear issues makes him a sought-after media guest. He has been interviewed by news and talk programs on CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, NPR, Fox News, and even Comedy Central. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
