HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Junior Kyle Mazur (Morris Catholic/Ogdensburg, N.J.) and sophomore Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal/Mount Joy) will both be representing the Juniata College track and field team at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships which begins Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in Oshkosh, Wis. Buffenmyer will be competing in the high jump which will be held on Friday afternoon, while Mazur has qualified for the meet in the javelin which will take place on Saturday. Both athletes will be competing at the NCAA Championships for the first time in their careers. After provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships last season but not earning a spot in the field, Buffenmyer is looking to become the sixth female track athlete at Juniata to earn All-America recognition. She enters the championships tied for the eighth seed in the long jump, with the top-eight finishers earning All-America distinction. Buffenmyer posted her best jump of the season at the Paul Kaiser Invitational at Shippensburg when she cleared 5\' 6\" matching her own career best and the Juniata record. She enters the competition just .02 meters behind the fifth-seeded jumper. She was the conference champion in the high jump at both the indoor and outdoor MAC Championships in her sophomore season. Mazur has shown remarkable improvement in his junior year, and enters the NCAA Championships tied for the ninth seed in the javelin. His best toss came when he won the javelin event at the MAC Championships as he posted a toss of 196\' 4\". That effort was more than 20 feet better then his effort from his sixth-place finish in the javelin at the 2006 MAC Championships. Mazur is within four feet of the sixth-seeded competitor in the event and will be trying to become Juniata\'s first male outdoor track and field All-American since the 2002 season. Mazur and Buffenmyer are the first Juniata athletes to earn spots in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships since the 2004 season. The Eagles have had provisional qualifiers each of the past two seasons, but have not earned a spot in the final competition. The last outdoor track and field All-American for both the Juniata men and women came in 2002. The Eagles had a competitor earn All-America recognition this winter at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships when Randy Anderson (Dubois/Dubois) claimed that honor in the 55-meter dash. The women\'s high jump event is scheduled to begin at approximately 3:00 p.m. CDT on Friday, while the javelin will start at 2:30 p.m. CDT on Saturday. ###
