(Posted November 29, 2007)
HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Juniata College\'s unprecedented athletic success this fall has given the Eagles the lead in the race for the Landmark Conference All-Sport Trophy. Juniata finished the fall season with a score of 7.25, ahead of the University of Scranton (6.17), Catholic University (5.67) and Moravian College (5.25). Scores for the remaining four Landmark institutions were not released. Juniata earned the top spot thanks to first place finishes in women\'s volleyball and women\'s cross country, as well as second place finishes in men\'s cross country and field hockey. Both the women\'s volleyball and field hockey teams earned wins in the Landmark Conference tournaments, earning additional points. Of the six Landmark Conference championships held in the fall season, three were won by Juniata College - field hockey, women\'s volleyball, and women\'s cross country. The women\'s soccer team qualified for the four-team Landmark Conference championship, and later received a berth in the ECAC South Region Women\'s Soccer Tournament. \"This achievement is a tribute to the accomplishments of all our fall student-athletes, in all our sports,\" said Larry Bock, Juniata\'s director of athletics. \"With three Landmark Conference championships and 54 student-athletes on the Landmark Academic Honor Roll, Juniata student-athletes have proven their commitment to achieving both athletic and academic excellence. I congratulate all our fall athletes and their coaches for their outstanding seasons.\" Under the Landmark Conference\'s point system for the All-Sport Trophy, an institution earns points for its regular season finish as well as Landmark Conference post-season victories. The accumulated points are then divided by the number of sports in which an institution competed in Landmark Conference play, to account for the different sport offerings of each member school. Juniata is also currently ranked eighth out of 420 Division III institutions in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Directors\' Cup standings with 153 points. -30-
