HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Dana Schwab, a junior at Juniata College from Cinnaminson, N.J. studying Spanish and Hispanic Cultures, has been invited to attend the University Presidential Inaugural Conference, an educational experience sponsored by the National Youth Leadership Forum from Jan. 17-21, 2009 in Washington, D.C.
Schwab will take part in a variety of panel discussions with such political consultants as James Carville, Paul Begala, Mary Matalin and Tucker Carlson. Scholars in the program also will witness the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States and attend the Black Tie Gala Inaugural Ball.
"I think all young people are (becoming) interested in politics because it will affect our future," says Schwab, the daughter of Bernadine and George Schwab. "We need to think about who will be best for our country (during this election)."
Schwab is currently studying abroad in Seville, Spain for the 2007-2008 academic year. At Juniata, she is an active volunteer and student. She has worked as a tour guide for Juniata's Office of Enrollment for the past two years and volunteers at the AseraCare Hospice at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
She also is active in several student clubs, including the Equestrian Club, where she served as secretary in 2006-2007, and the Ski Club, where she was treasurer in 2006-2007. She also is a member of the Health Occupations Students of America.
