HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Jerika Jordan, a sophomore studying art history and museum studies at Juniata College from Austin, Texas, has been chosen to participate in the Fulbright Commission Nottingham Trent Summer Institute at Nottingham Trent University in England.

Jordan is a 2006 graduate of The Woodlands College Park High School in The Woodlands, Texas. She also attended Austin Community College from 2009 to 2010. She has made the dean's list both semesters of her time at Juniata.

Jordan, the granddaughter of Earl and Lois Willis, of Austin, will spend four weeks in the United Kingdom, from July 7 to Aug. 4.

When Jordan returns, she will work as student assistant to the curator of the Juniata College Museum of Art during fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year. She also plans to study abroad in the United Kingdom in fall semester 2013.

In her local community, Jordan has been active with the environmental organization Greenpeace Inc. and the service organization Big Brothers Big Sisters

The theme of this year's Nottingham Trent Summer Institute is "Creativity, Culture, History and Heritage." She will follow a curriculum that includes photography, fine art, graphic design, product design, fashion and textiles, decorative arts, interior design and architecture.

"I am very excited and extremely honored to be given the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom," Jordan says. "As a Fulbright summer program participant, I am looking forward to gaining practical hands-on experience in the fine arts program, exploring the local artistic culture of Nottingham, and establishing communication and friendships abroad."


The Fulbright Commission Institutes are part of a global program conceived by the late Sen. William J. Fulbright in the aftermath of World War II. The Fulbright program currently operates in 155 countries around the world. Approximately 300,000 men and women have participated in the Fulbright Program.

The Fulbright summer programs cover all participant costs. Each year the Commission supports about 50 undergraduate students from the United States and the United Kingdom to experience academic and cultural programs in England.
