HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College and its award-winning international program is currently featured in a national report by NAFSA: Association of International Educators, released Nov. 14.

The association's report, "Internationalizing the Campus 2012: Profiles of Success at Colleges and Universities," highlights efforts throughout higher education to better prepare students in a global marketplace and interconnected world.

The report takes an in-depth look at Juniata, which recently received the 2012 Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization, together with profiles of four other institutions that received the award this year. The other colleges and universities profiled are: College of St. Benedict/St. John's University; Northern Arizona University; San Francisco State University and the University of Michigan.

The section on Juniata is titled "Faculty Discovered the World and Students Followed." The report focuses on the college's 20-year effort to make itself more internationally aware. The report details a strategic international student recruitment plan that raised the percentage of international students on campus to 10 percent -- a goal it reached in the 2011-2012 academic year..

The report also mentions Juniata's commitment to studying abroad, noting that almost half the class of 2011 studied abroad. The report also underlines the faculty commitment to study abroad, noting that 20 study-abroad programs are led by Juniata professors.

Juniata received the Simon Award at a November ceremony in Washington, D.C. Juniata President Tom Kepple accepted the award, along with Jenifer Cushman, dean of international programs and Kati Csoman, assistant dean of international programs.
The Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization is named after the late Sen. Paul Simon, a Democrat from Illinois, who was a strong advocate for international education throughout his public career. He helped create the National Security Education Program.
