Huntingdon, Pa.— On Saturday, April 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m , Juniata College will host its annual Empty Bowls dinner in Baker Refectory, Ellis Hall. A ticket buys attendees a handmade ceramic bowl as well as their choice of soup, bread and beverages. Tickets will be made available on March 31st and cost $12.  The event is open to the public.

For each of its 12 years of existence, 100% of the proceeds from the Empty Bowls dinner go toward funding food banks in Huntingdon County. Last year, $6,400 was raised at the event.

Soup is supplied by local restaurants such as Boxer’s Café, Top’s Diner, Hoss’s Steak and Seafood and Memories Sports Bar & Grill.

Bowls are handcrafted by Juniata students studying ceramics. Bethany Benson, associate professor of art at the College, says, “We have a class at Juniata to support the bowl making, so we know we have enough bowls to support the community. The first day of class I say, ‘you’re all in a large community here.’”

“Empty Bowls is a fun event for people outside the College community to come and interact with” says Laura Early, a student at Juniata who has been involved in Empty Bowls. “For those of us who make the bowls, it’s really cool to know that people are getting your work who will appreciate it.”
