HUNTINGDON, Pa. –Juniata College’s LGBTQ+ club PRISM will hold an inclusiveness training for the school’s club leaders and officers at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Brumbaugh Academic Center at Juniata College.

“PRISM’s main goals for the training are to make sure club leaders have the information that will make their club queer accessible, how to make an inclusive club environment, and to offer a supportive environment where allies feel comfortable asking questions” said Alex Bressler, one of PRISM’s officers.

Bressler, who will be conducting the trainings, spoke about the need for such an event.

“A few clubs have reached out before because they were unsure how to make their club inclusive and we hope these students will learn a lot from the event and have an adequate wealth of knowledge to have an LGBTQ+ supportive club” said Bressler. “We are the school’s only LGBTQ+ resource, so we have to perform all aspects that would be needed like support, education, and advocacy. It’s also better for peer leaders to hear information from another peer leader that has this wealth of knowledge from lived experiences.”

When asked about the possibility for conducting future trainings, Bressler said, “hopefully in the upcoming years, we will be able to. I hope that the club can do trainings for Res Life Staff, club leaders, and faculty. I’m confident that the people succeeding me in PRISM will be able to accomplish these goals.”
