HUNTINGDON, Pa.— The Commonwealth History Tour presented by Juniata College, organized in partnership with President Emeritus Thomas R. Kepple and AAA Central Penn, will explore the rich heritage found throughout the Keystone State July 25-31, 2021.

Led by David Hsiung, Ph.D., Shirley and Chuck Knox Chair of History at Juniata College and Pennsylvania Professor of the Year 2000, participants will embark on the six-night motorcoach tour beginning in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Hsiung, as well as James Tuten, professor of history at Juniata College, will lead discussions throughout the tour. From Pittsburgh, the Commonwealth History Tour will travel to Bedford, Harrisburg, Valley Forge, Philadelphia, and Gettysburg, as part of an itinerary that explores time periods spanning the first settlers’ arrival in the new frontier to the modern age. Highlights include visits to the Duquesne Incline, Bushy Run Battlefield, Ligonier Fort and Museum, Flight 93 Memorial, Old Bedford Village, the Civil War Museum, the Museum of the American Revolution, the National Constitution Center, Farnsworth Historic House, Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center and Museum and tours of Pittsburgh and the Gettysburg Battlefield.

As tour participants may encounter stairs, uneven ground, and cobblestoned streets, those interested should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances. Temperatures during the month of July average in the 80s, so those taking part are encouraged to wear casual clothing and comfortable walking shoes.

Pricing is $3,369 for single occupancy or $2,719 for double occupancy. Rates are subject to change. The cost includes round-trip motorcoach transportation from Pittsburgh, Pa., six-night hotel accommodations, baggage handling for one bag per person, meals (six breakfasts, lunches, and dinners), admissions and tours within the itinerary, all taxes, service fees, and gratuities for included features, and a contribution to the Juniata College Alumni Association.

To register for the Commonwealth History Tour, a deposit of $300 per person must be submitted to AAA Central Penn along with a completed registration form. Full payment is due by May 1, 2021. A cancelation fee of $25 will be charged by AAA Central Penn in addition to any other supplier’s fees. No refunds will be issued from May 1, 2021 to the day of departure.
