HUNTINGDON, Pa., and BASKING RIDGE, NJ—Imagine arriving on campus and receiving all required course materials without the need to scour the internet for deals—spending valuable time and money—or watching the race between the calendar and package arrivals.

Thanks to a partnership between Juniata College and Barnes & Noble Education, Inc., (NYSE:BNED) that’s exactly what students can look forward to with the implementation of Eagle Access, the name chosen for Barnes & Noble’s launch of First Day® Complete at Juniata College, and the opening of The Perch, the new campus bookstore.

Every year in the Dean’s office, we work with students who are struggling to obtain their course materials—books continue to cost more, and students often feel pressure to cut corners, delaying or declining to buy materials,” said Matthew Damschroder, Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students. “Those decisions, while understandable, diminish course success. By introducing Eagle Access, we assure every student has the needed books and materials for courses included in their tuition, making this an effortless transition, enhancing equity, affordability, and accessibility for our students. We look forward to our continued partnership as we implement this program to help drive student success.”

With Eagle Access, students will receive an email from the Juniata bookstore, The Perch, ahead of the fall semester, prompting them to select their preferred delivery method. The bookstore will prepare materials for each student and notify them when materials are available for in-store pickup or have shipped. Digital materials will be automatically delivered to students within Moodle, the university’s online course management system.

With the launch of Eagle Access, Juniata College students will now have access to all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes, digital materials, and electronic books in a convenient bundle before the first day of class at average student savings of between 35-50%.

“We are excited about our partnership with Juniata College as we implement Eagle Access to enhance student outcomes,” said Jonathan Shar, President of Barnes & Noble Education, Inc. “Eagle Access will ensure students at Juniata are prepared to begin learning on day one, driving greater student success while also offering a more affordable and convenient way for students to obtain their course materials. We are seeing incredible demand for First Day Complete across educational institutions nationwide as faculty and students realize the significant benefits of an all-inclusive course material program. We look forward to working with Juniata and our other partner schools to continue delivering solutions that empower academic success for all students.”

By delivering all course materials via one highly-convenient concierge service, Eagle Access ensures that the approximately 1,300 students at Juniata have access to all their required course materials on or before the first day of class, allowing them to engage with course content from day one, making them better prepared and facilitating their academic success. The program offers full academic freedom for faculty, allowing them to select course materials they think are best for their curriculum and leverage BNC’s deep relationships with more than 6,000 publishers, creating a one-stop, simplified experience.

Currently operating in a temporary space on the ground floor of Ellis Hall under the leadership of manager Shana Mark, The Perch will move into its new retail space on the first floor of Ellis Hall in time for the beginning of the fall semester. Hours of operation through the summer are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Juniatians and visitors alike will find their favorite Juniata College apparel and branded items, with new items arriving daily. Online shopping is available as well, at Juniata.bncollege.com or by downloading the My College Bookstore app and searching for Juniata.
