HUNTINGDON, Pa.—A cherished professor’s love for Juniata College will continue through the creation of the Professor Patricia C. Weaver Endowed Scholarship, which will benefit students planning to study within Juniata’s accounting, business, and economics department.

Patricia Weaver, Charles A. Dana Professor of Accounting, Business, and Economics Emerita, passed away on Jan. 10, 2023. Her children, Amy Mills and Adam Weaver, decided an endowment in their mother’s name was a fitting way to carry on her legacy of learning.

“Any time we would discuss charity or what she would want to support, she would always say, ‘Juniata College.’ Her love for the school was evident in everything she did,” Mills said. “She was an award-winning professor and dedicated her career to Juniata. We knew it would be the right place.”

Her deep commitment to Juniata College was evident throughout her more than 30-year career as an educator.

“Mom was a natural teacher, always trying to connect with people and expand their knowledge,” said Weaver. “She was blunt at times and had many sayings in line with her financial teaching and background. One was, ‘There are two types of people, those who earn interest and those who pay interest. What side do you want to be on?’”

Among her many contributions, she served as chair of the accounting, business, and economics department, updated the curricula, and changed the name of the department to better reflect the contemporary environment.

“Pat was known for her high expectations and for being a remarkably effective educator. She was never one for the spotlight and took more joy in celebrating the successes of her colleagues and students than her own,” said Provost Lauren Bowen. “Her colleagues knew her as an extraordinarily supportive mentor and friend.”

Mrs. Weaver received the Beachley Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2000 and the Beachley Award for Distinguished Academic Service in 2008.

“As a mentor to faculty and students, there are none better than Pat. She gave generously of her time to all who asked,” said Kathy Baughman, Division Head, Accounting, Business & Economics. “As a new teacher, her advice was invaluable to me. She taught me how to listen to students, how to weave storytelling into my teaching, and how to design assessments. Her students and her colleagues were at the center of her work.”

The Professor Patricia C. Weaver Endowed Scholarship will give first preference to students planning to study accounting at Juniata College, with consideration given to any student planning to study within Juniata’s accounting, business, and economics department. The Student Financial Planning Office will administer this scholarship.
