Ellen Long, assistant professor of education at Juniata College, will give a talk on "Positive Outcomes: Examining the Lives of College Graduates with Disabilities" at 4:30 p.m., April 11, in 202 Good Hall on the Juniata College campus.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Long will discuss the results of her study comparing the post-school outcomes of college graduates with learning disabilities to peers without learning disabilities. Long compared the two groups by the following variables: employment, self-support, community involvement and life satisfaction.

Long joined Juniata's faculty in 1999 as assistant professor. She specializes in special education. She earned a bachelor's degree in social and rehabilitation services and elementary education in 1983 and a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling in 1985, both from Assumption College. She earned a doctoral degree in special education from Penn State University in 1999.

Before coming to Juniata, Long taught several undergraduate courses in special education as a graduate assistant at Penn State. She also served as an instructor and counselor for students with disabilities at Trident Technical College in Charleston, S.C. from 1993 to 1996. She also worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor at the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission from 1985 to 1989.

She has written several publications including "Handbook for Students with Disabilities," "Faculty Handbook for Working with Students with Disabilities," and "Office for Disability: Faculty Handbook for Working with Students with Disabilities."
