Job Description
Position: General Counselor
Desired Qualifications: Must be open to working with people of all ages, personalities,
and
disabilities
PA State Police, FBI, and Childline clearances are required (half
of the cost will be reimbursed at the end of the camping season)

Hours: This is a residential position for the summer. Counselors are on
call - 24 hours per day with time off between sessions.

Immediate Supervisor: Unit Director in consultation with Camp Coordinator
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Attend scheduled orientation and staff meetings. Pre-camp training is mandatory
2. Sessions begin on Saturdays. Must be on time and prepared for Saturday morning
meetings starting at 9am
3. Have all paperwork (activity sheets, camper evaluations, incident reports) turned
in on
time
4. Responsible for keeping living spaces clean and orderly
5. Report to dining room promptly for meals. Your campers should be seated with their
drinks served by the time the kitchen rings the meal bell at 8:30, 12:30, or 5:30.
After
serving drinks, meet at the front of the dining hall for a counselor huddle and
announcements
6. Be prepared to start your activity on time. This includes any prior preparation
of materials
and/or equipment.
7. Do not leave activity area where assigned regardless of the number of campers who
show up. Any necessary changes will be made by the Unit Director
8. Assist campers to and from activity areas
9. Delegate responsibilities to other counselors during activities when acting as
the
“Counselor in Charge”
10. Counselors will be assigned “Officer of the Day” on a rotating basis
11. Create fun activities for campers
12. Maintain a clean and orderly program area, as well as keeping program equipment
areas
in central storage clean and orderly
13. Supervise and/or assist the unpacking and packing of camper’s personal belongings.
Keep track of campers belongings with a packing checklist. Everything should be tagged
and the counselor should see that articles do not become lost when the camper leaves.
In the event articles are left behind, it is the counselor’s responsibility to see
that the
camper’s belongings are returned by mail immediately (counselor will pay for postage)
14. Supervise and/or assist campers in personally daily care. This may include brushing
teeth, bathing/showering, toileting, feeding, etc.
15. Assist campers in card/letter writing, as well as help read their personal mail
if camper
needs help
16. Assist campers to the infirmary for routine medication, sick call, first aid needs,
or any
other type of medical attention
17. Help cook, serve, and clean the Canteen. Duties will be assigned by Unit Director
18. Be ready and willing to aid and assist campers at ALL TIMES. Above all, adopt
the
philosophy, “The camper comes first!”
19. All other duties as assigned
