Biography

Josiane Banini joined Juniata College in 2022 as an Assistant Professor of French and brings in her teaching experience from Florida State University and West Virginia University. Previously, she worked as a certified French teacher and French lecturer in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Dr. Banini earned her Master’s degree in Accounting from l’Université de Yaoundé II, Yaoundé, Cameroon with a merit scholarship from the Government of Cameroon. After working as an accounting at the Chamber of Commerce in Douala, Cameroon, Dr. Banini joined West University in 2009 for her graduate studies. Dr. Banini earned a dual Master's degree in Secondary Education and French with a dual teaching Certification in 2014 from West Virginia University, and went on to earn a Ph.D. in French and Francophone Studies in 2022 from Florida State University. Her teaching and research focus on contemporary Francophone literatures and cultures, gender studies, African diaspora & migration issues, pedagogy, and translation studies. Banini’s research work on pedagogy and Francophone African literature have produced several presentations and publications in peer-reviewed journals. She served as a Guest Editor with the African in Words, a blog that focuses on cultural production and Africa, from 2020 to 2022. She has also received awards and recognition for outstanding academic achievement.

Dr. Banini is the French program coordinator and administrator of Juniata College's study abroad program for French at l’Université Catholique de Lille. She is the advisor to the French club and and organizes a variety of French-speaking cultural events at Juniata. She is member of various journals and societies, including the National French Honor Society, Pi Delta Phi. She is the current moderator of the Juniata College’s PI IOTA, a chapter of the National French Honor Society. Dr. Banini loves indoor and outdoor activities, including running, dancing, and playing racquetball.
