Biography
Jennifer Streb joined the Juniata College faculty in 2005 as an assistant professor and was promoted to full professor in 2018. She received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Juniata College, and an MA and PhD in art history from Penn State University. Dr. Streb teaches introductory and upper-level courses in Art History and Museum Studies. She has also co-taught interdisciplinary and study abroad classes with faculty members in the chemistry, biology, English, and music departments.
During her time as curator of the Juniata College Museum of Art, Dr. Streb wrote an exhibition catalog and developed a nationally travelling retrospective exhibition featuring the paintings and prints of American artist Minna Citron’s work. Streb’s previous work on Citron includes her 2004 dissertation, a 2005 exhibition essay, and an article on Citron's "Feminanities" series in The Woman's Art Journal (Spring 2012). In 2015 Dr. Streb and Dr. Richard Hark co-curated and wrote a catalog for “The Art & Science of Portrait Miniatures” exhibition. And in 2016 Dr. Streb designed and edited a booklet for the “Psychotopia: Landscape Paintings by Paul Chidester” exhibition.
Dr. Streb has given gallery talks across the country, and she presents her research regularly at the Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association Conference. Her recent research project is focused on the work of the twentieth century American painter William Scharf.
Dr. Streb has received several awards including the Marshall Fishwick Travel Grant to Popular Culture Studies/American Culture Studies Research Collections (2010), the D.C. Goodman Summer Research Award (2011), a Short Term Research Fellowship at the Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library (2014), acceptance to the Kress Foundation Summer Teachers Institute in Technical Art History at Yale University (2016), and the Henry and Joan Gibbel Award for Distinguished Teaching at Juniata College (2014).
