Biography
Taylor Blackman is an Instructor of Environmental Science and Studies at Juniata College, specializing in GIS, soil science, and wetland ecology. Raised in northwestern Pennsylvania near the Allegheny National Forest, he developed early interests in natural systems. He served in the U.S. Navy, completing multiple deployments as a military police and coastal security specialist, an experience that informs his teaching and applied perspective on global environmental issues. After military service, he earned a B.S. in Environmental Resource Management from Penn State University, an M.S. in Soil Science from Virginia Tech, and is completing a Ph.D. at Penn State focused on vernal pools and wetland ecosystems using geospatial analysis.
At Juniata, he teaches GIS, global environmental issues, and senior capstone research, emphasizing field experience and applied learning. He is also involved in veteran engagement initiatives and brings professional experience in wetland delineation and habitat restoration to his instruction through his teaching practice.
