Annville, Pa.? The Juniata College women?s tennis team started its season with a 8-1 loss at the hands of conference opponent Lebanon Valley in Annville Saturday afternoon.

Juniata?s point came on the doubles court as Lindsey DiPaola (Cumberland Valley/Mechanicsburg) and Molly Coursey (Westminster/Hanover) captured an 8-6 victory at the number-one doubles spot.

At the second doubles Libby Cooney (Forest Hills/South Fork) and Jenny Liu (Pennsville Memorial/Deep Water, N.J.) dropped an 8-0 decision, and the Flying Dutchmen earned an 8-3 win over Jenna Taylor (Pequea Valley/Narvon) and Anita Desai (Cumberland Valley/Mechanicsburg) at third doubles.

Juniata?s tightest singles match came at the third position where Cooney was out-lasted by a 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 score. DiPaola fell at the first spot 6-1, 6-1 while Liu and Desai each fell by 6-3, 6-1 scores. Coursey played at the second singles position and was topped 6-3, 6-3, and Taylor suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss at five singles.

Juniata will return to action next Saturday at Sept. 11 at home against defending conference champion Moravian.
