Susquehanna 8, Juniata 1

Selinsgrove, Pa.? The Juniata College women?s tennis team suffered an 8-1 set-back to Commonwealth Conference foe Susquehanna in Selinsgrove Wednesday afternoon. Juniata fell to 0-3 both overall and in the conference, while the Crusaders remained unbeaten with a 4-0 record overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Juniata?s point came in doubles competition as they earned a victory in one of the three doubles contests. Elizabeth Cooney (Forest Hills/South Fork) and Jenny Liu (Pennsville Memorial/Deep Water, N.J.) captured an 8-6 victory at the third doubles position. At first doubles Lindsey DiPaola (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) and Molly Coursey (Westminster/Hanover) dropped a tight 8-3 decision, while Jenna Taylor (Pequea Valley/Narvon) and Anita Desai (Cumberland Valley/Mechanicsburg) fell 8-2 at second doubles.

The Eagles were unable to capture a point on the singles courts. Taylor put forth a solid effort at the fifth singles position as she fell 7-5, 6-3. Dipaola suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss at the first position, while Cooney lost by the same score at third singles. Coursey and Desai lost be identical 6-2, 6-1 scores at second and sixth singles respectively, and Liu rounded out the competition with a 6-2, 6-0 set-back at fourth singles.

Juniata will be back in action on Saturday when they face another conference foe Widener University.
