Princeton 3, Juniata 2

Princeton, N.J. ? A spirited comeback in the deciding fifth-game came up just short as the Juniata College women?s volleyball dropped a five-game match to Division I Princeton 3-2 in Princeton Saturday afternoon. Juniata falls to 17-3 with the loss, while the Tigers upped their record to 10-3.

Juniata took control of the match early, claiming the first two games by scores of 30-26 and 30-24. The Tigers rebounded with 30-26, 30-23 wins in games three and four, then hung on to take a 16-14 win in game five.

Led by Katie Laucks (West York/York) and Erin Wisor (Altoona/Altoona) Juniata started fast in game one as Juniata hit .294 as a team and pulled away late to claim the win in game one. It was Juniata?s defense that controlled game two as they limited the Tigers to a -0.87 attack percentage for the game, and held a 21-9 lead at one point.

Princeton claimed early leads in both games three and four, and were able to hang on to secure the victories and force the deciding fifth game.

Wisor and Laucks each finished with a team-high 18 kills for Juniata, with Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) and Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) adding 15 and 14 respectively. Setter Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton) passed out a season-high 71 assists for the Blue and Gold while also bringing up a season-best 29 digs.

Laucks also contributed eight blocks to the Eagle defense, with Kines adding six of Juniata?s 17 blocks for the match. Tara McMinn (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) recorded 26 digs for the Eagles, while Wisor notched a pair of aces and 18 digs of her own.
