Moravian 9, Juniata 2

Bethlehem, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s soccer team came one victory shy of matching the program record for wins in a season as the Eagles dropped a 9-2 decision to Moravian College in Commonwealth Conference action in Bethlehem Saturday afternoon. The match was the season finale for the Eagles who finish the year 6-11-1 overall and 0-7 in Commonwealth play. Moravian improved to 9-5-4 on the year and 2-4-1 in the Commonwealth.

The Greyhounds struck first on the match with Andrea Yetter notching her fifth goal of the season in the 10th minute, giving the home team a 1-0 edge. Juniata?s Nikki McLellan (Parkland/Lake Forest, Ca.) answered quickly as she took a pass from Rebecca Shoaf (Madison/Madison, N.J.) and tied the score at one just three minutes later.

Moravian responded with two more goals before halftime, as Yetter scored her second at the 22:40 mark and then Kelly Haymaker added the third tally four minted later.

Juniata keeper Lisa Russo (Lakeland/Haskell, N.J.) had a pair of saves in the first half to keep Juniata in the match, and then made two more saves in the second half as the Greyhounds pulled away.

The second-half scoring binge began in the 55th minute as Jessica Cordani notched an unassisted goal in the 55th minute. Megan Collins scored off a Cordani assist two minutes later, with Brianne DeVries recording Moravian?s sixth goal four minutes later. Erin Gonda assists on the sixth goal. Alisha Davy made the score 7-1 Moravian at 66:22 with Cordani picking up her second assist.

McLellan answered with her second goal, this time scoring unassisted at 70:24 in the second half.

Moravian would add two more scores down the stretch as Collins scored for the second time at 76:18 and Lauren Jo Zickmund added her first goal of the year with three minutes remaining. Haymaker assisted on the final score.

Moravian keeper Jill Vaccaro finished the match with a pair of saves.

With her assist on Juniata?s first goal, Shoaf closes out her career with 60 points, which ties her with McLellan for first in Juniata women?s soccer history. Shoaf joined teammates Emily Endres (Warren/Warren), Sarah Lester (Thomas Jefferson/Jefferson Hills), Emily Miller (Penns Valley/Coburn) and Lindsey Treon (Hollidaysburg/Duncansville) in playing their final game for Juniata.
