Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College senior women's volleyball player Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton) is featured in the Faces In the Crowd section of the December 13, 2004 issue of Sports Illustrated magazine. Dale is highlighted for being selected as the 2004 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Player of the Year, as well as helping Juniata to its first NCAA Division III National Championship.

The selection to Faces in the Crowd is another in a string of honors Dale has following her senior volleyball campaign. Along with earning Juniata's first women's volleyball player of the year honor, Dale was tabbed as the ESPN The Magazine 2004 College Division Volleyball Academic All-American of the Year. She also earned honors as a three-time All-American, a four-time All-Region selection, a four-time All-Conference choice and the two-time Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year. Dale was also selected as the NCAA Division III Tournament Most Valuable Player as she helped lead the Eagles to their first National Championship in the program's 19th appearance in the national semifinals.

Dale closes her career ranked first in NCAA Division III history in assists per game as she averaged 13.3 assists per game for her career. She passed out 6,385 assists for her career, which ranks third in NCAA Division III history. She tops the Juniata charts in both those categories and also ranks fourth in school history with 1,565 career digs. She has three of the top-10 single-season assist totals in school history, with her 1,702 assists from this season ranking seventh in school history. She finished the year ranking second on the team in digs (438), third in aces (47) and fifth in blocks (32). She helped Juniata finish the season with a .300 hitting percentage which ranked fourth in NCAA Division III.

Dale is the second Juniata College athlete to appear in Faces In the Crowd in the last calendar year. Former Juniata men's volleyball player Kenny Eiser '04 (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) appeared in the June 14, 2004 issue of the magazine after he was named the AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Year. Juniata now has both the reigning Division III Player of the Year in men's and women's volleyball and the reigning National Champion in Division III women's and men's volleyball.

The Juniata women's volleyball team earned its first NCAA Division III National Championship with a 3-0 victory over Washington University (Mo.). The first title came in Juniata's fifth appearance in the national championship match.
