Kevin Moore (Webster/Webster, NY), a senior setter for the Juniata College men's volleyball team, has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)/Sports Imports Division III national player of the week for the stretch of February 19 through February 25. It marks the first time in his collegiate career that he has earned the honor.
The 6-3 student-athlete led the Eagles to a 2-1 record last week. Juniata knocked off Division I Princeton, 3-1, in Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Tait Division play on Friday. On Saturday, the blue and gold unit fell to the 14th ranked team in Division I, Concordia College (NY), 3-1, during an EIVA Tait outing. On Sunday, the Eagles, who are ranked fourth in the latest AVCA Division III ratings, downed ninth-ranked D'Youville, 3-0.
Moore averaged 12.27 assists, 0.82 blocks, 1.55 digs and 1.09 kills per game while attacking at a .556 percentage on 20 swings during the week.
He produced 55 assists, nine digs and four blocks in the four-game victory over Princeton. Moore then recorded 40 assists, three digs, six kills and a .667 hitting percentage as the Eagles extended Concordia to four games. He ended the week with 40 assists, five digs, two blocks and five kills on five attempts against D'Youville.
For the week, he tallied 135 assists, 12 kills, 17 digs and nine blocks in 11 games.
"Kevin had a good week and he ran our offense very well against some of the top teams that we will face," said Juniata coach Ryan Patton. "He struggled a little bit at the start of the year, but he has come around and gives us a setter who is very versatile. I am very proud that he achieved this impressive honor."
For the year, Moore is averaging 10.47 assists, 1.30 digs and 0.35 blocks a contest, while hitting .564 with 34 kills on 55 swings and just three errors.
Juniata has won six of its last eight outings and is now 7-7 overall and 4-4 in the EIVA Tait Division. The Eagles will be back in action on Friday at George Mason for a 7:30 p.m. conference match against the Patriots.
