Gettysburg 2, Juniata 0
Gettysburg 5, Juniata 1
Gettysburg, Pa. ? The Juniata College softball team did its share of hitting in its non-conference doubleheader against Gettysburg Thursday afternoon, but the Eagles couldn?t muster enough runs as Juniata fell 2-0 and 5-1 in non-conference action. Juniata is now 6-8-1 on the season, while the Bullets improved to 9-2-1.
Junior hurler Renae Hobbs (Mount Union/Mount Union) tossed one of her best outings of the season in game one, but was matched by Gettysburg pitcher Shannon Kiry. Hobbs went all six innings, allowing just two runs on six hits while fanning one.
A lead-off triple in the second inning led to Gettysburg?s first run. The home team then added another run in the bottom of the second. Hobbs worked out of the threat with a fly-out to right, with Abby Sener (Donegal/Marietta) throwing out a runner at the plate to end the inning.
Juniata mounted a final threat in the seventh. Allison D?Ambrosia (State College/Boalsburg) started the inning with a single. An error and a single from Marcie White (Central Dauphin East/Dauphin) loaded the bases with one out. But Kiry induced a pair of pop-outs to end the threat.
In game two, Gettysburg got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the third. Juniata answered plating its first run of the day in the fourth. With two outs D?Ambrosia doubled and moved to third on a single from Kaleigh Driscoll (Institute of Notre Dame/Fallston, Md.). A wild pitch brought D?Ambrosia home with the run.
Juniata put a runner on in the fifth, but couldn?t push across another run and then saw Gettysburg another two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
All five runs came off Eagle starter Lizzie Bartosik (Penn/Granger, In.) who allowed five runs on nine hits in six innings. She struck out four batters on the game.
Jackie Pareso went the distance for Gettysburg allowing one run on five hits in the game.
Five different Eagles had hits in the game.
Juniata returns to action on Friday when the Eagles play a non-conference doubleheader at Pitt-Greensburg.
