Huntingdon, Pa.? In a final tune-up for next weekend?s conference championships the Juniata College men?s and women?s track and field teams hosted Messiah College and Gettysburg for a home non-scored meet in Huntingdon Saturday afternoon. The Eagle men posted 11 first-place finishes in the meet, while the Juniata women had the top finisher in four events.

Juniata?s women fared well in the throwing events. Debbie Delaney (Franklin/Reisertown, Md.) placed first in the discus, and added a second-place showing in the shot put. Jan Jennings (Pleasant Valley/Saylorsburg) was right behind her with a runner-up effort in the discus. Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View) tossed the javelin 131 feet to claim a win in that event.

Meredith Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) added a first-place effort for the Eagles in the 400 and then helped the 4x400 relay team cross the line first. Troutman also placed second in the 200 on the day. Elena Amato (Notre Dame Prep./Baltimore, Md.), Kristen Felix (Rockville/Rockville, Md.) and Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) added second-place efforts in the 400, 800 and 1,500 respectively. Cara Carpin (Clarion/Clarion) also contributed a second-place finish in the 100 hurdles.

For the men Randy Anderons (DuBois/DuBois) and Ben Beas (Kiski Prep/Johnstown) each had a pair of first-place finishes. Anderson crossed the line first in the 100-meters and posted a winning effort in the long jump, while Beas claimed top finishes in both the 110 and 400-meter hurdles.

The Eagles also fared well in the long sprints and middle distances races. Eric Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) posted a first-place effort in the 800, Mike Vella (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) won the 1,500 and Justin Fritzius (Central York/York) was the top finisher in the 5,000.

Juniata?s men also controlled the jumping events. Adam Loser (Central York/York) cleared six feet to place first in the high jump. Gary Ondecko Jr. (Bishop Carroll/Northern Camrbria) won the triple jump and Shawn Miller (Altoona/Altoona) claimed a pole vault victory.

The Eagle men also crossed the line first in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

The conference championship meet will begin on Thursday at Widener University in Chester.
