Bethlehem, Pa.? The Juniata College men?s tennis team completed its 2005 season at the MASCAC Individual Tennis Tournament Championships this weekend held at the tennis courts of Lehigh University. For the first time the Tournament featured six separate singles brackets along with three doubles brackets, with a champion being crowned in each flight.

Eagle senior David Bullock (Central Bucks East/Jamison) posted the strongest finish at the event as he advanced to the semifinals of the third-seed bracket. After receiving a first-round bye as the third see, Bullock topped Zach Kauffman of Lebanon Valley by an 8-4 score in the single pro set to advance to the semis. Bullock?s run then came to an end in the semifinal round as he fell to second seed Danny May of Messiah by a 6-2, 6-0 score.

Also advancing past the first round in singles competition was Romain Plessis (Catholic University of Lille/Lyon, France). Plessis, who was the third-seed in the number-6 bracket, topped Susquehanna?s Todd Adams 8-5 in round one. He then suffered an 8-1 set-back in the quarterfinals, falling to Jeff Sussman of Albright 8-1.

Juniata?s four other singles competitors, Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon), Brian Sykes (Gateway Regional/Woodburry Heights, N.J.), Jonathan Cohen (Highland Regional/Hollywood, Fla.) and Tom Nelson (State College/State College) all were unable to advance past the first round.

Juniata also had one doubles team advance in the tournament as the team of Cohen and Nelson earned a spot in the second round of the second-doubles flight. The duo posted an 8-4 victory in the first round over a team from Susquehanna, before falling 8-3 in the quarterfinals to the Lebanon Valley team. Juniata?s other doubles pairings suffered first-round set-backs.

Juniata ended the season with a record of 6-5, establishing a new program record for wins in a season.
