Track Gets Off To Strong Start At Conference Meet

Chester, Pa.? The Juniata College track and field teams began competition at the 2005 MAC Championships Thursday in Chester by topping a pair of school records in the only events in which they were competing.
Junior Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) ran to a fifth-place finish in the 10,000-meters to earn four points for the Eagles. Hayes finished with a time of 39:07.65 which bested her own school record in the event by more than a minute. The previous record was 40:29.43 which she established last season.
Michael Chirdon (Riverview/Verona) also claimed a new school record as he ran to a 12th-place finish in the men?s 10,000. Chirdon posted a time of 33:39.83, which broke the existing record which he had set earlier in the 2005 season.
Competition will continue at the MAC Championships on Friday.
