Tennis Unable to Overcome Conference Foe

Huntingdon, Pa.? The Juniata College women?s tennis team got off to a great start during its regular season, but were unable to match that start for its conference season as the Eagles suffered an 8-1 loss to visiting Messiah College in Commonwealth Conference action in Huntingdon Saturday afternoon. Juniata fell to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while the Falcons are now 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Commonwealth.
Juniata?s lone point came at the first singles position where freshman Ashley Andrews (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) claimed a third set tiebreaker to claim the victory. She earned the win by game scores of 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10-6).
Caroline Weisser (York Suburban/York) battled at the number-two singles position, extending the second set to an extra game before falling 6-3, 7-5. Molly Coursey (Westminster/Hanover) had a tiebreaker in her match at fourth singles, but was unable to claim a win as she fell 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
Messiah controlled the three doubles matches, with Andrews and Weisser posting the closest score at first doubles as they fell 8-3.
The Eagles will look to break into the win column in conference play on Tuesday with a match at Elizabethtown.
