Waterford, Ct. ? Running against some of the top Division III teams in the region, as well as Division I and Division II teams the Juniata College women?s and men?s cross country teams both posted strong finishes at the Connecticut College Invitational in Waterford Saturday afternoon. The Juniata women earned an impressive eighth-place team finish among the field of 22 teams while the men just missed out on finishing in the top half of the 24-team field as they posted a 13th-place team finish.

MEN?S

On the men?s side Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) ran the top time for the Eagles as he posted an 8K time of 26:43 to capture a 67th-place finish in the men?s race. Juniata?s next two runners came in just a bit behind Sheaffer as Shawn Rumery (Thornton Academy/Dayton, Me.) finished 70th and Mike Chirdon (Riverview/Verona) was 71st. The pair recorded times of 26:48 and 26:49 respectively. Eric Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, De.) was the fourth runner for Juniata as he placed 89th overall. The fifth runner for Juniata on the day was freshman David Reed (Northern Burlington/Columbus, N.J.) who finished in 98th position.

The top finisher in the men?s race was Matt Randal from The College of New Jersey who posted a time of 25:05 over the 8K course.

WOMEN?S

Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) earned the top finish for the Juniata women on the day as she raced to a time of 19:21 over the 5K course. That time was good enough for a 26th-place finish to lead the team. Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) finished 51st in the race and recorded a time of 20:06. A pack of Eagles were right behind Hayes as Meghan Jones (Meadville/Meadville) and Lia Bella (Morris Catholic/Rockaway, N.J.) were 58th and 59th respectively. Rounding out the scoring for the Blue and Gold was Lauren Gates (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) who crossed the line in 63rd position, just 13 seconds behind Bella. The Juniata women totaled 257 points to earn the eighth-place finish.

The top overall finisher in the women?s race was Kristina Miner from Trinity who ran a time of 18:24.

Juniata returns to action next Saturday as the Eagles run against Messiah and Gettysburg in a tri-meet at Messiah.
