JUNIATA MEN?S SOCCER DONE IN BY HIGH SCORING SECOND HALF
Carnegie Mellon 4, Juniata 0

Pittsburgh, Pa. ? The Juniata College men?s soccer team hung with perennial national power Carnegie Mellon for nearly 65 minutes, but a three-goal spurt over 11 minutes in the second half was too much for the Eagles as they dropped a non-conference match to the Tartans by a 4-0 score in Pittsburgh Saturday night. The loss dropped Juniata to 1-5 on the season, while the home team improved to 4-0.

Despite being out-shot 15-1 in the first period, the Eagles managed to keep Carnegie Mellon at bay behind a strong goalkeeping effort from junior Tim Penrod (Moravia/Moravia, N.Y.). Penrod registered seven saves in the first half, with the only blemish being a goal from Andrew Park that came just six minutes before halftime. The score was assisted by Sean Filipovitz.

The Eagles and Penrod would continue to hold off the attack until the 66th minute when Jonathan Browne scored an unassisted goal to make the score 2-0. That score seemed to break the ice as Browne followed with his second goal less than a minute later, this time off an assist from Andrew Park.

The home team then capped the scoring in the 77th minute when Matthew Humphrey knocked home a head ball off a free kick from Daniel Mastalski.

Penrod finished the match with 10 saves for the Eagles, while the Tartans? starting keeper Matthew Bazin made a pair of stops in net.

Juniata returns to action on Thursday with a home match against Mount Aloysius.
