Juniata 5, Neumann 1

Huntingdon, Pa. ? The Juniata College field hockey team entered its game with Neumann College looking for an offensive outburst to help snap a five-game losing skid. And offense was just what the Eagles got as Juniata topped Neumann 5-1 in Huntingdon Tuesday afternoon. Juniata improved to 2-5 with the victory while Neumann fell to 1-8 on the season.

The Eagles got started offensively early in the first half as Sierra Dickman (Foxcroft School/Marshall, Va.) knocked in a pass from Meredith Low (Sun Valley/Aston) just 11 minutes into the match.

The Eagles added another goal just minutes before halftime. This time it was Low on the receiving end of an Elise Zimmerman (Cumberland Valley/Boiling Springs) pass and knocked it in to put Juniata in front 2-0. The Eagles help the visitors to just two shots in the first stanza.

The Eagles then blew the game open over a 10-minute stretch of the second half. Five minutes after intermission Kim Wagner (Middletown/Middletown) fired a low hard shot from the right side of the scoring circle past Neumann keeper Chelsea Ward for Juniata?s third tally.

Seven minutes later freshman Lizzie French (Huntingdon/Allensville) took a cross from Zimmerman and scored her first collegiate goal to put the Eagles in front by a 4-0. Just two minutes after that, Sarah Roux took a feed from Wagner and blasted it home for Juniata?s fifth and final goal.

Neumann would answer, putting together several strong scoring chances before finding the back of the net with 15 minutes remaining. Samantha Lafferty took her own rebound and fed Michelle Coderre who knocked it into the cage.

Juniata goalkeeper Andrea Way (Fair Haven Union/Fair Haven, Vt.) made one save in net for Juniata while playing all 70 minutes.

Ward fended off 21 shots in goal for Neumann.

Juniata returns to action on Saturday with a conference match against Moravian College. Neumann will take on Widener University on Thursday.
