Eagles Volleyball Too Much For York and Rutgers-Newark

JUNIATA VOLLEYBALL ROLLS TO NON-CONFERENCE WINS

Huntingdon, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s volleyball team continued its winning ways with a sweep of non-conference opponents Rutgers-Newark and York College both by 3-0 scores in Huntingdon on Saturday. With the two wins, Juniata upped its record to 10-1.
Juniata topped Rutgers-Newark in the afternoon by game scores of 30-7, 30-18, 30-21.
The Eagles controlled play with strong defense at the net as Juniata piled up 13 blocks in three games, and limited the visitors to a -.097 hitting percentage.
Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) led the team with nine kills and four blocks on the match while hitting .818. Kines also added three aces, with Abby Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) contributing another four of Juniata?s nine aces.
Beth Kozak (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) had 23 assists for Juniata, and helped the Eagles attack at a .432 clip. Amber Thomas (Conestoga Valley/Ephrata) paced the team with eight digs. Rachael Schatz was also a factor defensively as she matched Kines with four blocks.
In the evening match, Juniata bested York 30-17, 30-23, 30-25.
Katie Laucks (West York/York) provided the top offensive effort for Juniata as she finished with nine kills and a .800 hitting percentage. Schatz added six kills awhile three other Eagles finished with five kills.
Kines tossed in four serve aces for Juniata in the match, giving her seven in the two matches. Jessica Ritchey (Greencastle-Antrim/Greencastle) dished up 23 assists for the Eagles while Kozak passed out 15 abets. Kelly Popernik (Bartlett/Bartlett, Ill.) was tops on the Eagles with 15 digs on the match.
Juniata will return to action on Tuesday with a non-conference battle at Albright.
