Juniata 3, Chapman 0

Orange, Ca. ? The Juniata College women?s volleyball team closed its? west coast road trip with a 3-0 win over Chapman University Sunday afternoon in Orange, Ca. The win was the 13th-straight win for the Eagles and improved their record to 18-1, while Chapman dropped to 9-5.

After an extremely close match on Saturday, Juniata earned Sunday?s win in slightly easier fashion posting victories by scores of 30-19, 30-25, 30-23. Game two was the tightest of the games, as the two teams were tied at 24 late in the match. But Juniata then scored six of the next seven points to seal the game.

Juniata?s defense was the story as the visitors produced 10 blocks and 56 digs to help limit Chapman to a .129 team hitting percentage. Katie Laucks (West York/York) finished with a team-high seven blocks, while Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) added four.

Offensively Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) paced the squad with 15 kills. Laucks added 13 and Amber Thomas (Conestoga Valley/Ephrata) added 10.

Jessica Ritchey (Greencastle-Antrim/Greencastle) directed the Juniata offense to a .374 hitting percentage while passing out 49 assists. She also had two of Juniata?s 10 aces. Kines and Laucks each contributed three aces.

Tara McMinn (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) was the only Juniata player in double figures in digs as she produced 10.

Juniata plays at conference foe Moravian on Wednesday for its next match.
