Albright 3, Juniata 1
Reading, Pa. ? Albright scored a first half goal and added two late insurance tallies to hand the Juniata College women?s soccer team a 3-1 loss in conference action Sunday afternoon. Juniata is now 4-8-1 on the season and 0-4 in conference. Albright moved its record to 10-2 on the season and 1-2 in Commonwealth play.
Albright took an early lead in the 24th minute as Bethann Pagano scored off an assist from Anne Curry. The two teams would then remain scoreless until the 73rd minute when Albright drew a penalty kick. Stephanie Deswert converted the penalty to put the home team in front 2-0. The lead moved to 3-0 ten minutes later as Pagano scored her second goal of the game, off another assist from Curry.
Juniata would get a goal late as it was pressuring to cut into the advantage. This time Juniata earned a penalty kick, and Lauren Welsh (Westminster/Finksburg, Md.) converted the chance with just 1:30 remaining in the match.
Kerri Lawrence (Paramus Catholic/Waldwick, N.J.) made three saves in net for the Blue and Gold, while Albright keeper Jess Schmura made a pair of stops.
Juniata continues its road trip with a non-conference match at Southern Vermont College on Tuesday.
