Volleyball Fights Past Colby

Westminster, Md. ? The Juniata College women?s volleyball team earned its second invitational championship of the season by claiming wins over Colby College and Seton Hill University to earn the championship of the 24th-Annual Green Terror Invitational on the campus of Western Maryland College Saturday afternoon. The Eagles downed Colby 3-1 in the semifinal, and then swept past Seton Hill in the championship match.
Earlier in the season, the Eagles won all of its matches at the Ashland University Invitational to take that championship.
Katie Laucks (West York/York) was selected to the All-Tournament Team for helping Juniata to the win.
The Eagles claimed the title by topping Seton Hill 30-15, 30-20, 30-22. Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) and Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) both had 11 kills in the match to lead Juniata?s offense. The Eagles also used a dominant defense at the net as Kines finished with seven blocks while Schatz and Erin Albert (Philipsburg-Osceola/Philipsburg) both had four.
Kines and Kristi Fitzsimmons (Diamond Ranch/Pomona, Ca.) each tossed in three serve aces to help the Juniata cause. Jessica Ritchey (Greencastle-Antrim/Greencastle) was the setter for Juniata in the win, and finished with a team-high 14 digs.
Juniata claimed the semifinal win over Colby by game scores of 26-30, 30-26, 30-22, 30-22. Schatz and Kines once again led the offensive charge by recording 19 kills apiece. Kines also earned three points with three serve aces in the match.
Albert anchored the defense with another four-block effort for the Eagles.
Juniata will be back in action on Wednesday with a conference match at Messiah.
