Lancaster Bible Wins Triple-Overtime Marathon
Lancaster Bible 95, Pennsylvania College of Technology 95 (3OT)
Huntingdon, Pa.â??It took three extra sessions, but eventually Lancaster Bible claimed a 96-95 win over Pennsylvania College of Technology in the consolation game of the 2005 Mutual Benefit Group "Doc" Greene Invitational in Huntingdon Saturday night.
Drew Karschner scored 37 points and helped Lancaster Bible overcome a 12-point halftime deficit to earn the victory.
Trailing by 10 points with 2:47 left in the game, Lancaster closed regulation on a 13-3 run capped by Karschner drilling a jumper with eight seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Penn College again pulled in front in the first overtime, before Lancaster Bible tied the game at 81 after an Andrew Butler lay-up. Lancaster then went in front with two free throws, but this time it was Penn College knotting the score on a Tom Little basket with 53 seconds left. Both teams missed chances to win the game in the first overtime as they went to a second extra session.
Penn College seemed to have the game in hand in overtime number two after a three-point play from Matt Melusky made the score 90-87 with 56 seconds remaining. Lancaster Bible answered once again, getting a three from Tim Feliciano with 41 seconds remaining to send the game to a third overtime period.
Finally, Lancaster Bible had the final answer in the third overtime period. Melusky put the home team in front by one by hitting one of two free throws. Then with 13 seconds left, Karschner was fouled and sank both free throws to give Lancaster Bible a one-point lead. Penn College could not convert in the final seconds.
Ryan Carpenter added 23 points for Lancaster Bible, while Feliciano chipped in 15. Zach Long grabbed eight rebounds while Karschner also had nine assists.
Penn College had five players in double figures, led by Melusky's 20 points. Preston Peterson added 19 points and 11 rebounds.
