Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College sophomore basketball player Ali Meckey (Bishop Carroll/Ebensburg) has been selected to the MASCAC Honor Roll for her efforts this past week in helping the Eagles to a 2-1 record. Along with Players of the Week for both the Commonwealth and Freedom Conferences, the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation names three student-athletes to the MASCAC Honor Roll each week. It marks the first conference honor that Meckey has captured in her collegiate career.

The sophomore guard scored in double figures three times, including a career-best 26-point effort for the Eagles this past week. Meckey posted 26 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field and 6-of-13 shooting from three-point range in Juniata's game against Farmingdale State at the NYU Classic. She scored 12 points in the opening game of the tournament, with her efforts over both days helping her capture All-Tournament Team honors. Meckey also tossed in 14 points while adding five steals in Juniata's victory over Penn State-Altoona. She dished out two assists in each of the three games during the week and shot 47-percent from the field and 42-percent from three-point range. Meckey averaged 17.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and three steals per game over the three contests.

After a solid freshman season, Meckey has enjoyed a breakout start to the 2005-06 campaign. She ranks second on Juniata in scoring with her 14.2 points per game average, and leads the team in steals, and three-point field goal percentage. Through five games, she is shooting nearly 40 percent from long range and has hit at least one three pointer in all five of the team's games. After scoring in double figures five times as a freshman Meckey has enjoyed double-digit scoring outings in four games this season. She has also had two assists or more in all five games and has posted at least two steals in each of the team's five games.

With Meckey making big contributions, Juniata is 3-2 in the early season after the victories over Alvernia College and Penn State-Altoona last week. Juniata will open its conference season on Wednesday when the Eagles host Susquehanna University.
