Carlisle, Pa.? The Juniata College indoor track and field teams got their seasons off to a strong start with a pair of solid efforts at the 2005 Holiday Invitational at Dickinson College Friday afternoon. Juniata?s men team placed third in the six-team field, while Juniata?s women?s team earned a fifth-place finish.

It was a big day for junior Randy Anderson (DuBois/DuBois) who placed first in the 55-meter dash, first in the 200-meter and second in the triple jump. His time in the 55 was good enough to provisionally qualify him for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Eagles added several other top finishes in those events. Freshman John West (WB Saul/Philadelphia) placed second in the 55, while Dusty Sier (Smithsburg/Smithsburg, Md.) was third. Matt Booth (Allentown Central Catholic/Allentown) added an eighth-place finish. Sier and Booth then provided third and fifth-place efforts in the 200. Booth was the winner in the triple jump with a lifetime-best jump. Gary Ondecko (Bishop Carroll/Northern Cambria) added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump.

Adam Loser (Central York/York) was another individual winner for the Eagles as he claimed a first-place effort in the high jump. Rounding out the scoring for the Juniata men was Mark Modak (Sandy Spring Friends/Gaithersburg, Md.) who placed eighth in the 55-meter hurdles.

On the women?s side, sophomore Caitlin Hinson (Danville/Danville) was Juniata?s top point producer as she claimed a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash and a fifth-place effort in the 55-meter dash.

The other points for the Eagles on the women?s side came from a trio of freshmen. Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal/Mount Joy) placed second in the high jump and added a fourth-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles. Katie Tavenner (Spring-Ford/Oaks) earned a sixth-place finish in the shot put and Melissa Konowal (Archbishop John Carroll/Philadelphia) was eighth in the 55 hurdles.
