LEWISBURG, Pa.? Competing against some of the top Division I and II teams in the East, the Juniata College men?s and women?s track and field teams enjoyed strong performances, including establishing several new school records, at the non-scored Bucknell Bison Open Friday and Saturday.

Even while competing against top-level Division I foes, the Eagles enjoyed several top-eight finishes on both the men?s and the women?s sides while also posting news school records in numerous events.

On the women?s side both top-eight finishes came from freshman Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal/Mount Joy). Buffenmyer tied for first place in the high jump. Her jump of 5? 5? tied the Juniata school record which was established in 1994. The freshman then added a fifth-place finish in the long jump, recording a best effort of 18? 1 ½?.

Another school record was set outside of a top-eight finish on the women?s side as Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) broke her own school record in the 5,000 as she ran a time of 18:29.22.

On the men?s side, the top finish came in the 100 where Randy Anderson (DuBois/DuBois) placed second, running a blistering time of 10.74. The time set a new school record, breaking the previous mark that had been established in 1991.Anderson later posted a fifth-place finish in the long jump.

Matching that fifth-place effort was Adam Loser (Central York/York) in the high jump, and Kyle Mazur (Morris Catholic/Ogdensburg, N.J.) in the javelin. Matthew Booth (Allentown Central Catholic/Allentown) also contributed an eighth-place finish in the triple jump.

The Eagles then got a fifth-place finish in the 4x100 relay where the quartet of Gary Ondecko Jr. (Bishop Carroll/Northern Cambria), Dustin Sier (Smithsburg/Smithsburg, Md.), Anderson and Booth ran a time of 42.85.

While it wasn?t a top-eight finish the Eagles also got a new school record in the 5,000 where Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) ran a time of 15:21.02 which broke the existing school record by more than 25 seconds. Mike Chirdon (Riverview/Verona) also ran a time faster than the previous school record.

The Juniata track and field teams will return to action next weekend at the Indiana (Pa.) Open.
