MEN'S BASKETBALL (6-2, 1-2 Commonwealth): Dec. 21, Villa Julie.

The Eagles went 2-1 during a busy three-game week. On Tuesday, Juniata traveled to Lebanon Valley for a Commonwealth Conference outing, but came home with a 90-65 loss. Senior forward Nathan Hager (Franklin/Franklin) led the blue and gold hoopers with 16 points, including three three-pointers. He also passed out three assists, had two steals and posted four rebounds. Freshman forward Ben Gallagher (Butler/Butler) posted 10 points and two rebounds. Freshman forward Jeff Lau (York Catholic/Glen Rock) came off the bench to post nine points and four boards, while junior guard Shane Crandall (North Allegheny/Doylestown) had eight points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. On Thursday, the Eagles got back on the winning track with a 65-56 win over visiting Grove City. Crandall paced the offensive attack with 17 points. He also pulled down six rebounds and registered two assists. Junior guard Brian Dietrich (Wilson/Wyomissing) recorded 16 points, while Gallagher had 12 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Hager added in eight points, five boards, two assists and two steals. Overall, Juniata shot 22 of 24 from the foul line (91.7%). On Saturday, Coach Rick Ferry's troop downed host York (PA) in the 2000 White Rose City Classic game, 75-63. Dietrich and Gallagher each netted 16 points for Juniata to lead the way, while Lau, a product of south central Pennsylvania, scored a season-high 13 points and pulled down three rebounds. In addition, Crandall had 11 points. Lau, Dietrich and Crandall each had three three-pointers on the day and helped the Eagles shoot 55 percent from the floor for the game. Gallagher and Hager each had a team-best four rebounds for the Eagles, and Hager added in six points and four assists. The 6-2 record by Juniata this winter is the program's best eight-game start to a season since the 1991-92 unit opened with an identical mark.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING (4-2, 3-2 MAC): Jan. 13, Penn State-Altoona.

Juniata had its lone outing of the week, a home dual meet with Penn State-Altoona postponed. It has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 13 at 1:00 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (3-4, 1-2 Commonwealth): Dec. 12 at Grove City.

The Eagles split their two games this past week, including a 75-61 win over Dickinson on Friday. On Wednesday, Juniata dropped a 73-70 outing at Commonwealth Conference rival Lebanon Valley. It marked the 11 consecutive loss for the Eagles against the Dutchwomen. Sophomore center Kelly Steinbeiser (Altoona/Altoona) posted a career-best 23 points for Juniata. She hit 9 of 12 shots from the floor, including one for one from behind the three-point line. Steinbeiser also went four of four from the foul line and pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds. Junior guard Kelly Grove (Penns Valley/Spring Mills) registered 19 points, six assists, four steals and four rebounds. Junior forward Brandy Preslovich (Bald Eagle Area/Moshannon) added in 10 points and nine boards. Junior point guard Kelli Young (United/Vintondale) had five points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds. On Friday during the 14-point win over visiting Dickinson, Steinbeiser matched her career-high from Wednesday with 23 points. She went 10 of 16 from the field, nailed her lone three-point attempt and was two of two at the charity stripe. In addition, Steinbeiser had a club-best eight rebounds and blocked two shots. Grove added in 16 points, five assists, four steals and two rebounds, while Young finished with six points, six assists and two steals. Preslovich had eight points, seven rebounds, two steals and one rejection on her 21st birthday.
