Women Run Well At Tri-Meet

Loretto, Pa. ? The Juniata College men?s and women?s cross country teams sent a clear signal that the success of the previous season may not just be a one-year occurrence as the Eagles posted a pair of strong team finishes in a tri-meet with Saint Francis University and Penn State-Altoona Friday in Loretto. The Juniata men topped both teams, earning a tight 26-29 win over Division I Saint Francis who are the defending NEC Champions, and besting Penn State-Altoona 15-50. The Juniata women also defeated Penn State-Altoona by a 15-50 score but fell to Saint Francis 15-46. WOMEN?S Juniata?s women?s team was led by a sixth-place finish from Aubrey Cyphert (Seneca/North East). The sophomore covered the distance in a time of 17:31.3 to pace the Juniata team. Meagan Jones (Meadville/Meadville) claimed a seventh-place finish in the race, running a time of 17:37.55. Lauren Gates (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) captured ninth-place honors in the meet, as she ran a time of 17:56.13. In fourth place for the team, and in 11th-place overall was Lia Bella (Morris Hills/Rockaway, N.J.) who ran a time of 18:03.59. Finally, rounding out the top five was Meghan Fahy (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) whose time of 18:06.96 was good for a 13th-place finish. MEN?S The Eagles used a strong front-running pack to claim the victory on the men?s side. The Blue and Gold had all five runners in the top eight, led by Shawn Rumery (Thornton Academy/Dayton, Maine) who placed third with a time of 17:47.22. Right behind him with a time of 17:55.56 was Mike Chirdon (Riverview/Verona). Matt Bailey (Hempfield/East Petersburg) was fifth in the race, posting a time of 17:57.94. Eric Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) earned the sixth position, coming home in a time of 18:01.03. And rounding out the top-five for the Blue and Gold was Jason Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) who posted a time of 18:28.25. ###
