Tennis Grounded By Flying Dutchmen

ANNVILLE, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s tennis team was unable to translate its recent non-conference success to a triumph in conference action as the Eagles suffered an 8-1 loss to Commonwealth foe Lebanon Valley Wednesday afternoon. Juniata fell to 4-3 overall and 1-3 in Commonwealth play, while Lebanon Valley is now 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in the conference. Juniata picked up one victory in doubles action in the match, but were unable to come away with any singles victories. Caroline Weisser (York Suburban/York) and Maggie Wolenter (Audubon/Audubon, N.J.) claimed an 8-5 victory at first doubles to earn the only point of the match. Molly Coursey (Westminster/Hanover) and Liana James (Boulder/Boulder, Colo.) played a tight match at third doubles but fell by an 8-6 score. In singles, Juniata had two matches extended to three sets, but fell short in each one. Amanda Fontana (Trinity/Mechanicsburg) one the first set of her first singles match before suffering a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 loss. Wolenter also earned a win in the first set, but eventually dropped her third singles match 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Juniata gets back into action on Friday when the Eagles host Saint Francis for a non-conference contest. ###
