(Posted October 1, 2006)
Princeton 3, Juniata 0 PRINCETON, N.J. â?? It did not come against a Division III opponent, but that fact didn\'t make any difference in the record book as the Juniata College women\'s volleyball team was dealt its first loss of the season by Division I Princeton University Sunday afternoon. The Tigers earned a 3-0 victory which dropped Juniata\'s record to 20-1 on the season, while Princeton remained unbeaten with an 11-0 record. Juniata hung with Princeton through a tight game one, before falling 32-30. Juniata was unable to reclaim the momentum as the home team took the final two games by scores of 30-27 and 30-25. Juniata trailed late in game one, but rallied behind kills from Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) and Beth Kozak (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) along with a solo block from Erin Albert (Philipsburg-Oscoela/Philipsburg) to pull within striking distance. But Princeton hung on getting back-to-back kills to end the game. Game two was also tight as the score was knotted at 25 before Princeton ripped off four straight points. An Amber Thomas (Conestoga Valley/Ephrata) kill halted the run, and Juniata got another point off an attack error before the Tigers closed out the game. Juniata held the early advantage in game three before Princeton pulled away again late in the game to claim the 30-25 win and seal the match. Thomas led Juniata\'s offense in the match as she produced 14 kills. Schatz was also in double figures for Juniata with 12 finishes. Paige Johnston (Hempfield/Lancaster) added nine kills for the Blue and Gold in the match. Kozak led all players with four aces in the contest and also passed out 36 assists from her setter position. Defensively Juniata got 11 digs from Molly Sollenberger (Cumberland Valley/Mechanicsburg) and 10 digs from Megan Sollenberger (Cumberland Valley/Mechanicsburg) along with seven from Kozak. Schatz and Johnston each had two blocks for Juniata which was out-blocked 12-6 in the match. Juniata returns to action with a conference outing on Wednesday as the Eagles travel to play Lebanon Valley. ###
