Swimmers Unable To Get Past Defending Conference Champs
(Posted November 10, 2006)
READING, Pa. - A strong team effort and a few breakout swims were not enough to help the Juniata College women\'s swimming team overcome defending MAC Champion Albright Friday evening as the Eagles suffered a 113-79 set-back to the Lions in conference dual-meet action. Juniata fell to 1-3 with the loss. Despite the loss, Juniata still managed to claim some strong performances as the Eagles had a pair of first-place finishes in individual events, and one top finish in a relay. Kasey Brough (Carlisle/Gardners) got to the wall first in the 500 freestyle to earn points for Juniata. The other first-place effort came from Carlie Zoubek (Paul IV/Burke, Va.) who was first in the 100 breaststroke. Juniata\'s relay team then claimed a victory to close the meet as Kristen Musselman (Central Columbia/Bloomsburg), Amy Sutherland (Norwich/Norwich, N.Y.), Collin Thompson (Altoona/Altoona) and Betsy Rogers (Castilleja/San Mateo, Calif.) earned a win in the 400 freestyle relay. Rogers split in the event was easily her fastest of the season and was a key in the victory. Juniata also had a paid of runner-up finishes in the meet as Sutherland placed second in the 200 backstroke, and Zoubek was second in the 200 individual medley. Juniata will return to conference action on Saturday as the Eagles swim in a tri-meet against Lebanon Valley and Drew at Lebanon Valley. ###
