(Posted January 13, 2007)
JUNIATA SWIMMING TOPPED BY DIVISION II FOE HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Juniata College women\'s swimming team had a number of solid swims in its first dual meet of 2007, but it was not enough to overcome the overall depth of visiting California University (Pa.) who dealt Juniata a 134-90 set-back in non-conference dual-meet competition on Saturday. Juniata is now 3-6 in dual meets on the year. While the Vulcans are a perfect 2-0 in their two dual meets. Coming off a tough week of training in Florida, Juniata battled through its fatigue to get several strong swims. Juniata had a pair of first-place efforts on the day, with Amy Sutherland (Norwich/Norwich, N.Y.) earning one in the 200 backstroke. Also claiming a win was Kasey Brough (Carlisle/Gardners) who touched the wall first in the 400 freestyle in a season-best time of 4:48.31. Sutherland also had several runner-up finishes on the day as she posted a season-best time of 2:17.99 to place second in the 200 freestyle, and was also second in the 100 backstroke. Also claiming a second-place effort on the day as Betsy Rogers (Castilleja/San Mateo, Calif.) was second in the 100 freestyle. Carlie Zoubek (Paul IV/Burke, Va.) recorded an outstanding time of 3:02.07 in the 200 breaststroke, good for a second-place finish. And Rachael Almy (Foxcroft Academy/Charleston, Maine) finished behind Brough for a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle. Juniata also claimed a first-place effort in the 400 freestyle relay as Paige Black (Tyrone/Tyrone), Kelly McErlean (Eastern/Voorhees, N.J.), Rogers and Brough combined to record a time of 4:36.45. Juniata will return to action Wednesday night with a conference dual meet against Susquehanna in Huntingdon. ###
