(Posted February 21, 2007)
HUNTINGDON, Pa. - One of the most successful seasons in the history of the Juniata College men\'s basketball team earned the Eagles a pair of spots on the All-Conference Team as junior forward Brian Cannon (Fallston/Fallston, Md.) and senior center Chris Jasiota (Oil City/Oil City) were each honored for the team as selected by the conference\'s eight head coaches. Cannon was one of five first team All-Conference honorees, while Jasiota was one of five selected for the second team. In addition, Juniata Head Coach Greg Curley was selected as the Commonwealth Co-Coach of the Season for the first time in his six seasons at Juniata. It marks the first time since the Commonwealth Conference began naming its own All-Conference Team in 2000-2001 that Juniata has placed two players on the All-Conference Team. After strong efforts in his first two seasons Cannon enjoyed a breakout junior campaign in which he led Juniata in both scoring and rebounding. He averaged 15 points per game on the season, which ranked fifth in the conference, and bested his average from his sophomore year by nearly three points per game. Cannon grabbed 6.7 rebounds per contest which also ranked fifth in the conference. He shot better than 50 percent from the floor while adding 34 assists, 19 steals and six blocked shots. Cannon scored in double figures in 20 of Juniata\'s 25 games, and failed to reach double digits in just one of the team\'s 14 conference outings. He posted 10 or more in 12 of Juniata\'s last 13 games to help the Eagles in their push for a postseason bid, and had three-consecutive double-doubles during that stretch. Cannon closed the year with four double-doubles in points and rebounds and pulled down at least seven rebounds in 13 contests. In Juniata\'s 14 conference games he raised his scoring average to nearly 17 points, and pulled down seven rebounds per game. A major contributor in each of his four seasons, Jasiota enjoyed his best all-around season as a senior. He ranked third on the team in scoring at 9.2 per game, and posted a career-high rebounding average with 6.3 boards per game. His 56-percent field-goal percentage led the team and ranked third in the conference and he was also fifth in the conference with his 24 blocked shots. His two blocks in Juniata\'s season finale gave him 80 for his career which leaves him as Juniata\'s all-time blocked shot leader. Jasiota set career highs in senior season in points (231), rebounds (157) and assists (45). Remarkably consistent all season, his scoring and rebounding numbers in conference games is nearly identical to his totals for the entire season. Jasiota posted 11 double-digit scoring efforts on the year, including a season-high 18 points against Waynesburg. He grabbed 10 or more rebounds on four occasions and finished the season with a pair of double-doubles. He shot better than 40 percent from the field in all but three of Juniata\'s games. Cannon and Jasiota helped Juniata finish 15-10 in the regular season, and earn the team\'s first postseason berth since the 1988-89 season. Juniata will host Susquehanna University on Wednesday in a Commonwealth Semifinal. ###
