NEWARK, N.J. - Matt Werle (Meadville/Meadville) was named the MVP of the Rutgers-Newark Golden Dome Classic as he helped the Juniata College men\'s volleyball team to a perfect 2-0 record at the event as the Eagles defeated host Rutgers-Newark in an EIVA Tait Division match on Sunday night. Werle passed out 42 assists and helped Juniata (8-4, 3-2 EIVA Tait) hit .376 as a team in the victory. Matt Fritz (John Carroll/Churchville, Md.) and Dan Powers (Manheim Township/Lancaster) were each also picked for the All-Classic Team. Kenny Rienecker finished with 13 kills and a .417 hitting percentage for Rutgers-Newark (2-12, 0-6 EIVA Tait) as he earned All-Classic honors. Juniata controlled nearly every category as the limited the Scarlet Raiders to a .165 hitting percentage in the match, while outblocking the hosts 12-5.5. The Eagles hit .310 or better in each of the three games as they claimed the win by scores of 30-21, 30-24, 30-24. To go with his 42 assists, Werle led Juniata with 10 digs while adding a pair of aces and five blocks. Fritz and Nate Ocasio (Northeastern/Manchester) each finished with 13 kills in the contest while each also hit better than .350. Fritz was one dig shy of a double-double as he brought up nine digs. Senior libero Steve Yeager (Hempfield/East Petersburg) also finished with nine digs, while Powers notched a team-high six blocks to go with eight kills. Nate Stott and Eric Honsberger added nine and eight kills respectively for the host team. Mark Hulse led the Rutgers-Newark offense with 37 assists in the match. Honsberger and Stott each also led the team with five digs, while Honsberger was also the leader with three blocks. Juniata will take its modest two-match winning streak into a home match on Thursday when the Eagles host EIVA Tait foe East Stroudsburg. ###
