Track Women Get Off To Strong Start Outdoors

TOWSON, Md. - The Juniata College men\'s and women\'s track and field teams made it outdoors for the first time this season and turned in strong performances at the non-scored Towson Invitational Saturday afternoon. On the women\'s side, the Eagles managed three top-five efforts, all of which came in the field events. Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal/Mount Joy) was fifth in both the long jump and the high jump on the day. She cleared 4\' 10\" to capture her fifth-place effort in the high jump. Also placing fifth on the day was Maggie Wolenter (Audubon/Audubon, N.J.) who was fifth in the javelin with a toss of 106\' 7\". The men\'s team got the outdoor season off to a strong start with four first-place performances and another six top-five performances. Pacing the men was Kyle Mazur (Morris Catholic/Ogdensburg, N.J.) who won the javelin with a throw of 178\' 2\". Also capturing a win was Matthew Booth (Allentown Central Catholic/Allentown) who was first in the triple jump with an effort of 42\' 6 1/4\". Booth was also the runner up in the long jump on the day. Juniata\'s victories on the track came from Tripp Rudolp (Upper St. Clair/Pittsburgh) who won the 800 in a time of 1:57.92 while TJ Breya (East Juniata/McClure) won the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.11. Breya was also fifth in the 110 hurdles on the day. Juniata\'s other top-five performances came on the track. Jason Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) was third in the 3,000 steeplechase. Eric Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) ran to a fourth-place finish in the 800 and Dusty Sier (Smithsburg/Smithsburg, Md.) was fourth in the 100. The track teams will return to action next Saturday when they run at the Western Pa. Championships hosted by Indiana (Pa.). ###
