HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Juniata College closed the 2006-07 academic year by placing 26 athletes on the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MASCAC) Academic Honor Roll for the spring sports season. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior; have a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have completed the spring sports season in good standing on their team. Juniata's 26 honor roll selections were the 10th-most honorees among the conference institutions. The Eagles had at least one representative from each of the five MASCAC sponsored varsity sports that compete in the spring season. Juniata\'s women\'s track team, which placed fifth at the MAC Championships, led the way with eight selections to the team. Three seniors earned a spot on the team as Regina Diehl (Camp Hill/Camp Hill), Meghan Fahy (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) and Lauren Gates (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) all received recognition. The remaining four honorees were from the sophomore class with Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal/Mount Joy), Pam Campanero (North Arlington/North Arlington, N.J.), Meghan Jones (Meadville/Meadville) and Kayla Thompson (Huntingdon/James Creek) all receiving the honor in their first year of eligibility. The men\'s track team was one of two Juniata squads to earn five spots on the academic honor roll. Seniors Randy Anderson (Dubois/Dubois) and Mike Chirdon (Riverview/Verona) each claimed the honor in their final seasons, while juniors Jason Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) and Shawn Rumery (Thornton Academy/Dayton, Maine) also found their way onto the team. Sophomore James Voland (Seneca Valley/Cranberry Township) rounded out the honorees from the men\'s track team. Five members of Juniata\'s baseball team also picked up academic honor roll recognition. Four of the five came from the team\'s large junior class with Josh Lingenfelter (Claysburg-Kimmel/Claysburg), Brian Markovich (Northern Cambria/Northern Cambria), Andrew Snyder (Punxsutawney/Punxsutawney) and Steve Wilk (Blairsville/Hollidaysburg) each earning a spot on the team. Matthew Sullivan (Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) represents the sophomore class from the baseball team on the honor roll list. Juniata\'s other two spring sports each placed four members on the team. Men\'s tennis saw senior Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon) earn the distinction and then was joined by sophomores Casey Chew (Phoenixville/Phoenixville), Ryan Navarro (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) and Aaron Rhodes (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) who were all honored for the first time. Four sophomores represented the Juniata softball team as second-year players Tara Carl (Otto-Eldred/Duke Center), Kaylee Kachik (Maplewood/Cambridge Springs), Elsann Machotka (South Regional/Manahawkin, N.J.) and Pam Mansell (Penns Valley/Centre Hall) earned spots on the honor roll for the first time. The spring honors mark the final time Juniata will earn spots on the MASCAC Honor Roll as the Eagles will begin competition in the Landmark Conference in the Fall of 2007.
