Juniata College

(Posted September 5, 2007)

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Juniata College field hockey freshman Paula Price (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) was visibly nervous as she waited at the scorer\'s table to make her collegiate debut, with the game deadlocked at 1-1 and approximately 10 minutes remaining in Wednesday\'s clash with Washington & Jefferson College. After seeing Price\'s performance once she got into the game, Eagle head coach Caroline Gillich make try to keep the rookie on edge every time she plays. Price scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 9:06 remaining in regulation, barely ten seconds after entering the game, lifting the 14th-ranked Eagles to a 2-1 victory over the Presidents at Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon. After Ashleigh Ehnts (Glenside, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) had her initial shot blocked, she recovered the ball and passed to Price. Price put the ball at the back of the W&J cage, over outstretched President goalie Ashley Rund. After a scoreless first half, senior Kim Wagner (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) put the Eagles on the scoreboard barely two minutes into the second half with her unassisted goal. The Presidents knotted the game at 1-1 with 21:25 remaining on the clock, when Julie Zackey beat Juniata goalie Moira Nugent (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) for Washington & Jefferson\'s only goal. \"We\'re playing well, but not as well as we\'ll play when our full unit comes back on the field,\" said Gillich, noting that several Eagles were at less than 100% physically for Wednesday night\'s game. \"We\'re happy to get the win, but focused on the things we need to do better.\" Nugent finished the game with a pair of saves in just over 46 minutes in the Eagle goal; she came on in the 24th minute to replace starter Abby Funk (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg). Juniata outshot W&J 9-4, and had a 7-2 advantage in penalty corners. The Eagles have the weekend off before facing Elizabethtown College on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon.
