Delfeayo Marsalis is a nationally known trombonist who has also had a long career as a record producer for a wide variety of jazz artists. His most recent solo album is \"Minion\'s Dominion,\" which features such cuts as \"Lost in the Crescent,\" \"Weaver of Dreams\" and \"Lone Warrior.\" \"Minion\'s Dominion\" was released in 2006 and featured such musicians as pianist Mulgrew Miller, saxophonist Donald Harrison and drummer Elvin Jones. Marsalis is a member of the much-celebrated \"First Family of Jazz,\" which includes his father, pianist Ellis Marsalis, and brothers Wynton Marsalis, a trumpeter who is perhaps the most recognizable jazz musician playing today, and Branford Marsalis, who once led the \"Tonight Show\" band and has had an extensive solo career. \"He has mastered the art of offering significant and valid music without seeming to take himself too seriously,\" wrote noted jazz critic Leonard Feather in the Los Angeles Times. He has produced more than 75 major-label recordings, including works by Harry Connick Jr., pianist Marcus Roberts and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Marsalis also pursues a thriving career as a session musician and sideman. Indeed, he has toured with such major jazz players as drummer Art Blakey, drummer Max Roach, pianist Abdullah Ibrahim and drummer Elvin Jones. He also released two other solo albums: \"Pontius Pilate\'s Decision\" (1992), and \"Musashi\" (1996). He was born in New Orleans, La. and attended the Berklee College of Music. He also earned a master\'s degree at the University of Louisville. He also participates in several youth music education programs. His prowess on the trombone, a brass instrument not usually used as the lead instrument in jazz combos, has been compared to J.J. Johnson, one of the first trombonists of the bebop era to lead his own ensemble. The musicians in Marsalis\' current quintet include Mark Shim, tenor saxophone; Victor \"Red\" Atkins, piano; David Pulphus, bass; and Jeff Fajardo, drums.
